As per the Australian Passports Act of 2005, a child is the one who is below 18 years of age & who has never been married. Furthermore, a child’s name can never be included in the parent’s passport or an adult’s passport.

Forms to be used when applying for an Australian children’s passports
- If the child whose Australian passport is to be applied for is in Australia only, then the Child PC – 4 form is to be filled

- However, if the child is overseas then the application that is to be used for an Australian passport is Overseas PC – 8 form

Documents required when applying for an Australian children’s passport & important points to remember when applying for children’s passport
- 2 photographs & one of them has to be signed by the guarantor
- Parental responsibility
- Children who are either 10 years old or more than that will have to sign on the application form (where there is a box provided)
- Even a child’s passport application form has to lodged
- But as this form is of a child, a parent can get the passport application form lodged
- And this must be done only either by a parent or by a person who has the parental responsibility for that particular child
- The person who is going to lodge the child’s passport application should be ready with the identity proof / residential address / photo
- Children who have turned 16 or 17 have to lodge the application along with their parent (s)
- However, children who are younger than 16 years may skip the lodging process
Citizenship proof for a child’s passport
As per the recent changes to the Australian citizenship, applicants who are born on or after 20th of August, 1986 will have to submit their citizenship evidence to get the passport issued.
Proof of Identity required for a child’s Australian passport application
Birth certificate along with a passport that the child might have been issued earlier should be submitted as proof of identity. Besides this, if the birth certificate is in a different language then this has to be translated.

If at all there is a change in the name then the change of the name certificate has to be submitted as well.
Parent’s consent
Children’s passport applications have to include the parent’s written consent as well. Both the parents should have the parental responsibility besides the court orders that permit the child to have the Australian passport.
