Rule number 1 is to be followed when you apply for an adult Canadian passport in Canada. And according to this rule, you will have to not only be 16 years old but also a Canadian citizen. Another important rule to be made a note of is that when you wish to travel in the next 20 days, you will have to apply for a passport at any of the passport offices in Canada.
However, if you will be travelling only after a month or so, then you can go ahead & submit the Canadian passport application to any of the passport offices or service Canada or the Canada post. This can be done either by mail or in person.

Fill the application form
- You can first fill the application form online & then (download it to) take a print out
- Remember to sign on all the pages

Collect the documents required for the passport
- Next you will be required to put together the documents that have to be submitted along with the passport application form
- These documents include Canadian citizenship proof / identity proof / photos / Canadian travel document (if valid)
- Apart from these some other documents will be required if you have lost / stolen / damaged passport / changed your name / request a change in gender / wish to drop the place of birth (name)
- These documents have to be submitted in English or French
- If these documents are not in any of the languages then you must get an official translation of the same
Guarantor & references names / signatures
- Look for a guarantor who can sign the application form / a photo & the photo copies of identity documents
- In addition to this, 2 references have to be included in the list (application)
- These references should not be either a family member or the guarantor
Submit the Canadian passport application
- Next submit your application form either by mail or visit the passport office & submit the passport application form
Receive the Canadian passport
- When the individual has applied for a Canadian passport by mail, you will receive not only the newly issued passport but also the original documents that had been submitted along with the passport application form
- Both the passport & the original documents will most probably be received in 2 packages
- On the other hand when you have applied for a passport in person & have opted for a paid pick up service then on the receipt, pick up date will be mentioned
- Furthermore, someone else can also pick up the passport for you only if they have a written authorization from the applicant & a valid identification.
